NBIF Intermodal Railyard

Site Work | Concrete | Utilities | Industrial Maintenance

The Intermodal Rail Yard project involves developing a 118-acre site on the former Charleston Naval Complex to enhance goods and commerce movement over rail within the state and throughout the Southeast. This facility leverages its proximity to major roadways and offers equal connectivity to the region's Class 1 rail carriers, CSX and Norfolk Southern.

The scope of work includes extensive site preparation and utility installation, moving approximately 450,000 cubic yards of dirt and placing over 250,000 tons of rock. The project also involves constructing a 600,000 square foot building and installing over 160,000 square yards of concrete paving. Storm drainage systems will be extensively developed with over 12 miles of installations.

Additionally, 1,200 feet of roadway will be developed, including grading and rock work. Rail and electrical infrastructure improvements include installing 74,000 track feet of rail, 38,000 linear feet of electrical duct bank, and erecting 18 high mast lights. The construction also involves building three walls, two berms, and two crane rails. This project aims to stimulate regional economic development and enhance transportation infrastructure.
